XXXMAS

I was broke this year so I didn't really buy anyone gifts. I told everyone I would make them anything they wanted. So, I wasn't expecting any presents. But, my good friend got me these..

They are so perfect. I always look for simple jewelry, but I have trouble finding things that are are feminine AND edgy. Yay! He picked them up from one of my favorite portland shops Stand Up Comedy. They are so sweet there and I love their selection.

Also, my boyfriend surprised me with these Candela oxfords.

I got the white version. It turns out they are more of a nude in person. I have been looking for casual shoes that aren't just Docs or Converse to wear regularly and these are a good alternative. I rarely find an oxford for a reasonable price that I like.

My baby Greg is in town from New York. Lots of drinking/sleeping going on..party. I am sure there will be some fun pictures soon.

Teena Marie died! She was the first white act on Soul Train. SQUARE BIZZZZ

Thrift Store Gold

Jacket: Grey Antics
Top: Zucca
Bottoms: American Apparel
Shoes: Doc Martens

This particular day it was pouring rain and I needed to get out of the house before I went stir crazy! What better way to fight the rain than by thrift store shopping? I have a few favorites I like to hit up, but Save-Mor Thrift is the best for finding really cool old books...

I found this gem of a book (for only $1!) completely dedicated to how awesome Los Angeles is from a 1973 perspective. It has so many pictures and interesting information that only makes me fall more in love with this beautiful city.

This pic is called "Desert Wildflower Extravaganza -- a link with the past." They had me at extravaganza.

This pic is of the commuters along Harbor Freeway past the first of the Bunker Hill skyscrapers on their way home from work. The number of people commuting that 40-50 mile drive to and from work everyday has clearly exploded since this picture was taken considering the cars are going fast enough to create these "Streamers of Light."

The book gives a pretty extensive history lesson of the city (so you know I'm pumped!) including this picture from Los Angeles' gilded age. This is the Bradbury Building designed in 1893 by George H. Wyman.

I LOVE THIS HOUSE! This is a 1959 house by Pierre Kownig built on a cliff in Los Angeles. A house like this is my motivation to do well in school and get a high paying job so I can afford living in this paradise.

I'm still dying to go visit this monument in Pasadena and will hopefully do so in the next couple of weeks. This is the prototype of the California bungalow by architects Charles and Henry Greene and was turned into a monument because of how popular this style of home became throughout California -- and beyond. I will definitely be sharing pictures of the real thing when I go!

The burbs! This section of the book goes over the problems and pleasures of living on a hillside. The picture is supposed to be one of the premiere neighborhoods in the hill ridden Sherman Oaks. It's prestige is characterized by the swimming pools.

Until next time...

Random Inspiration/Thoughts/Wishes

Wishing for my hair to be long again!

But, in the meantime I need to find stuff to cover this mess!

Black Summer is going to be doing a book/zine soon. The zine releases on Pogo Books all seem promising. I wish I could order them all. I have really been in a photography mood lately. So, I am going to act on it!
WHEN WE MILK EACH OTHER By Viktoria A Lisbet

I keep running into pictures of this girl online. I love her face. Sometimes you just see someone and you can't stop thinking about their face. Well, atleast I do. I feel slightly creepy, but it's as if the internet has allowed me to be. THE INTERNET!

Finals May Make You Ugly, but Winter Break Doesn't

Jacket - Grey Antics
Dress - T by Alexander Wang
Shoes - Pour La Victoire
Necklace - Laura Lombardi

The best part about the holidays... dressing for them. I wore this number for my (ex) work Christmas party and after two weeks of straight studying for finals, I was relieved to actually wear something other than smelly, Fabreeze soaked baggy clothes. I just bought this jacket, even though I have absolutely no money due to my lack of employment, and am currently obsessed with wearing it with everything. One good thing about not having a job and my own money to spend, is I actually have gotten to be more explorative with my existing clothes instead of going and buying something that looks just like what I already have.

Speaking of finals, they almost killed me. Not because they were too hard or I didn't have enough time to complete them, but, rather, I spent far too much time Facebook stalking. I only bring it up because everyone I talk to about finals pretty much has the same issue. I know when I was sitting on my computer with only my name typed on what was supposed to be a near completed 12pg document on women's history and the Feminine Mystique, I was on my Facebook home screen literally watching for new posts to roll in. Not good. Then I came across this article that tells about a way to actually suspend any use appropriately called "Anti-Social." The first step is admitting you have a problem, and the next is taking action! Next quarter I'm quitting my stalking habits cold turkey.

Before the Right One

Sweater - Nastygalvintage.com
Pants - Vintage
Shoes - Doc Marten

My friend Hailey made me buy these snakeskin print pants. They are not something I would normally wear, but for nine bucks, why not? I really love them now and am trying out different pieces with them all the time.

I feel like all the songs I post never actually have music videos. Maybe I will just make a mix to download soon.

Such a Fool

Blazer - Unknown
Shirt - Vintage
Skirt - Vintage
Shoes - Surface to Air

I have been trying to not wear black all the time. It becomes so easy. So now, when I do wear all black, I try to mix it up. Different black materials, faded black as well as pairing it with light lipstick. Don't get me wrong, I love a head to toe black uniform (including black lipstick). I just know I need to change it up sometimes so it doesn't get boring for me or scare the kids in my neighborhood. :DD

This outfit's song is Never Come Back by Kas Product!! Mona's voice is perfection.

Baby, Baby

Coat - Vintage Christian Dior
Top - Club Monaco
Trousers - Vintage
Heels - Modern Vintage

I wore this outfit to an interview the other day. And, I didn't get it! Whaaa! Oh, well. Afterward I cracked two bottles of wine.. so it wasn't that bad of a night!

This live version from the Big D Jamboree is my all time favorite!

Another Girl in the Neighborhood

TopShop Unique romper
Vintage leather jacket
Sock Dreams thigh highs
Doc Marten patent boots

We have been getting weird tropical weather here. I don't understand it, but it gives me an excuse to show a little skin (not that I need one).

Lately I have been focusing on how much music really influences my style. So..
